CEDAR CREST, N.M. (KRQE) – Residents in Cedar Crest, like many New Mexicans, spent Thursday dealing with snow and being met with road closures because of it. "So I usually wake up around 3 o'clock to get to work by 4. I work in Albuquerque, I'm a transportation driver, but I couldn't even get out of our driveway. I drive a Nissan Versa so it's very tiny, it literally was almost covering my tires," said Naomi Carrillo, a Cedar Crest resident. The New Mexico Department of Transportation issued warnings to drivers about difficult road conditions in the Interstate 40 area through Tijeras toward Moriarty. NMDOT said they helped more than 200 vehicles on the side of I-40 east of the Metro area. LIST: Snow totals in New Mexico for early November 2024 storm "This is a pretty good one. Usually, we'll get two to three inches but then it doesn't last you know we'll get a couple of warm days then it melts but the key word is it was planned. I mean they said it was coming. It's those ones you don't know that are coming, or it catches everybody off guard," said Joe Lenninger, a Cedar Crest resident. Many businesses in the area stayed closed or closed early due to the weather. Between five and 15 inches of snow have fallen in the East Mountains over the last 24 hours. The storm is expected to clear up on Saturday. Weather Information Latest Weather Video Forecast Interactive Radar Weather Alerts Submit Photos, Videos
