ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)—A strong storm system has brought cold air, gusty winds, and snow to much of New Mexico and has had a big impact in the metro. The powerful wintry mix has caused school delays, closures, and power outages across the state. Downed trees and power lines have led to dangerous driving conditions but some people are happy finally to see some snow. I woke up early this morning and he sleeps in a little later than I do. And I was just pacing back and forth waiting for him to get up and see all of the snow on the trees that had just drooped all the branches down to the ground," said Dorothy Martinez who lives in Albuquerque. It's something that isn't seen every day in Albuquerque. "I feel good about it, I like it. It feels fresh its a good time to watch movies with the family and stuff," said Andres Perez who lives in Albuquerque. This strong storm system is a curve ball for many in the metro who aren't used to seeing this much snow and slush in November. "I like it but it feels different here because we are not used to it here in Albuquerque," said Perez. Across the state of New Mexico, areas were blanketed with heavy, wet snow leading to treacherous driving conditions with slush inundating streets. "Yeah, ice balls and a lot of snow," said Perez. City crews that worked throughout Thursday afternoon could be seen picking up branches and sweeping off sidewalks. Drivers along Candelaria and Lomas had to navigate traffic signal outages at intersections. With reports of drivers speeding through these areas, Albuquerque police urged drivers to treat those intersections as four-way stops until the power can be restored. One driver shared an important reminder with others on the road, "Just for them to take their time if they do need to go somewhere. Go earlier, just take your time. I mean it's better to get there than not at all."
