The Spurs could be getting some much needed offensive firepower soon It’s been a week filled with bad news for the San Antonio Spurs. Not only were they badly beaten by the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets, but they lost Jeremy Sochan to a thumb injury, and head coach Gregg Popovich is still away from the team with health issues. Good news may be on the horizon for the Silver and Black.
On Thursday afternoon, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Devin Vassell is expected to make his season debut as early as Saturday when the Spurs face the Utah Jazz.

Vassell has missed the first 9 games of the season while he recovers from surgery fixing a stress fracture in his foot. His return would provide the Spurs with a desperately needed offensive punch. Last season, Vassell averaged 19.5 points on 47.2% shooting from the field, 37.2% shooting from deep, and hit 80.1% of his free throws.
San Antonio is last in the NBA in points per game (104.4) and 27th in three-point percentage (32.1%.) Vassell’s floor spacing and shot creation have been missed in the opening stretch of the season. His return to the starting lineup would not only provide an offensive spark but open the floor up to create more opportunities for Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul.
The Spurs are still waiting for Tre Jones to return from an ankle injury that was supposed to sideline him for two weeks. There has been no news on Jones’ status, but he could return soon if his injury timeline is accurate. Sochan will likely miss 20-25 games with his injury, so it could be a while until the Spurs are back to full health.
Still, Vassell’s return should be a major shot in the arm for a team that needs it. Keep your eyes on the injury report tomorrow afternoon for Vassell’s status for Saturday’s matchup with the Jazz at 4 pm CT.
