MSPCA seeks donations for injured kitten with 'a heart full of love'

BOSTON (WPRI) — The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) is seeking donations for a stray kitten who's in need of a major surgery.
Callahan, a 7-month old domestic shorthair, was brought to the Angell Animal Medical Center Tuesday morning by a good Samaritan.
MSPCA-Angell said Callahan is suffering from broken femurs in his two back legs that will require surgery to repair.
"We likely will never know how Callahan suffered these injuries," explained MSPCA's Dr. Rebecca Fellman. "All we know at this point is that he needs surgery as soon as possible."
"We're keeping him comfortable as best we can with pain medication, but the sooner we’re able to repair his legs, the better," she continued.

MSPCA-Angell described Callahan as a sweet kitten with "a heart full of love" who wants to be playful with shelter staff and fellow cats but can't due to the severity of his injuries.
Fellman expects Callahan to undergo surgery with orthopedic specialists at Angell Animal Medical Center within the next week.
"Working together, we'll come up with the best possible plan for Callahan that will hopefully save all his legs and eventually let him life his life pain-free, like any normal cat," she said. "But unfortunately, these kinds of procedures can be expensive."
MSPCA-Angell estimates that Callahan's surgery and related care will cost at least $5,000. Anyone interested in donating on Callahan's behalf can do so online.
Callahan's owners have not been identified by shelter staff, according to MSPCA-Angell, meaning he will be put up for adoption after he recovers from his surgery.
