MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis music community is mourning the loss of one of their own after a popular bass player was killed in Midtown.
Blake Rhea was known for making waves in Memphis music since the '90s, recently touring with the band Southern Avenue.
Investigators say Rhea was in an argument with 51-year-old Edward Wurl, who had dated the same woman as him, inside Louis Connolly’s Bar on Cleveland Street.

Security footage shows Rhea walking toward his car as Wurl followed him. After a struggle, shots were fired. Wurl is charged with First Degree Murder and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun.
In a statement, bar owner Louis Connolly said: “Stories like this are so common that we have become almost numb to them. We are thankful that the violence did not come into the bar. But that doesn’t make this any less heartbreaking, and our thoughts go out to the victim and the victim’s family.”
Many who knew Rhea say they are still processing this and are in shock. They say Rhea just got off tour less than two months ago and was killed in his hometown.

Friends say his death is a heartbreaking example of senseless gun violence. They say when he when Rhea wasn't on stage, he was on the golf course.
Taylor Pfohl says they played in a golf tournament as a group on New Year’s Day for the last 25 years, never knowing this would be their last one together.
Court records show that Wurl was convicted of burglary and unlawful wounding in 1994.
