400 Memphis families receive week's worth of food

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Four hundred North Memphis families lined up Thursday to receive a week's worth of food along with other items provided by local organizations.
The event was called FedEx Cares, a collaboration with The Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis, Feed the Children and The Neighborhood Christian Centers, which is where the event was hosted.
"One in six people in the Memphis area are food insecure," said Rachel Kesselman, FedEx Communications Advisor. "It's a great time to give back and to serve our neighbors."
Dozens of volunteers put their words into action.
One-by-one, families pulled up, receiving 25 pounds of non-perishables along with hygiene and beauty products.
"These are things that people may not know, but SNAP benefits don't cover those types of essential items, and by providing these products we are hoping again that they are helping the families stretch those budgets further," said Colleen Ridenhour, Feed The Children.
