Drier air arrives as we close out the week
Nov 07, 2024
With a frontal boundary lingering over the commonwealth it was a damp Thursday across parts of Central and Eastern Kentucky. We started the day with steady showers and a few rumbles of thunder in the Bluegrass before the bulk of the rain shifted off to the southeast. The clouds and scattered showers kept temperatures in check a bit with afternoon highs struggling into the mid to upper 60s, which is still above average for early November. After a few wet days we should dry things out as we close out the week.
High pressure to our northwest will drop into the Ohio Valley early on Friday bringing dry air and slow clearing to the area. Expect a decent temperature gradient to start Friday with readings in the mid-40s along I-64 northward thanks to clear skies while lingering clouds down south should hold temperatures into the low-50s. The dry air will win out through Friday morning allowing plenty of sunshine to return. Expect a very pleasant day with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 60s. It should be a nice cool evening for the first round of high school football playoffs so dress accordingly if you have plans to go.
It looks like a 50/50 weekend with a dry start on Saturday as a storm system cranks up across the Central Plains. If you have outdoor plans this weekend then Saturday is your day as most locations should remain dry with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 60s. After sunset the rain chances should ramp up from west to east with a wet finish to the weekend on that way. You’ll need to keep the rain gear handy Sunday with occasional showers and thunderstorms expected along with breezy conditions. We should see some healthy rainfall totals with many spots seeing around 1″ plus totals by the time the activity moves eastward.
It is now looking drier for Veterans Day to begin next week as we’ll be in between storm systems. Temperatures shouldn’t drop off much behind the departing weekend storm system so afternoon highs should hold into the mid to upper 60s. This is still very nice for early November as average afternoon temperatures continue to drop back a degree or two every few days, which puts us into the upper 50s range. Next Tuesday looks good as well before another storm system heads our way with more rain chances into the middle part of next week.
