INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis and several other cities are set to receive more than $4 million in funding thanks to the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. State Sen. Cyndi Carrasco (R-Indianapolis) announced Thursday that several communities in Senate District 36 received matching funds from the Indiana Department of Transportation that will be allocated toward local transportation and infrastructure projects in addition to the improvement of roads and bridges. The Circle City received $1.5 million in matching funds while Greenwood was allocated a total of $1,412,472. The town of Homecroft was awarded $139,215 while Johnson County received $1,423,666. Since the program was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, communities across the Hoosier state have been awarded more than $1.8 billion in state matching funds for local construction and road improvement projects. The program involves the Indiana Department of Transportation matching up to $1.5 million every year when communites invest local funds into bridge and infrastructure projects. Any county with a population of less than 50,000 and cities/towns with less than 10,000 inhabitants are awarded a 75%/25% match, while counties with a population greater than 50,000 and cities/towns with more than 10,000 people receive a 50%/50% match. "Maintaining and improving infrastructure in District 36 is essential for creating safe, sustainable and attractive environments for families to live in and thrive," Carrasco said. "This award will help provide our community with well-maintained roads and bridges, which will foster growth and connectivity."   Eligible counties and cities/towns have two windows to submit applications every year with the next opening arriving in January of 2025.
