NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Native Americans from the region will display, demonstrate, and sell their arts and crafts at an upcoming event in Natchitoches. Northwestern State University is hosting the annual American Indian Crafts Day on Sat., Dec. 7, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The crafts day will be held in the Williamson Museum, Room 208, in Kyser Hall. Admission to the event is free, and the crafts day is held at the same time as the Natchitoches Christmas Festival. NSU Professor of Anthropology Dr. Peete Gregory said that craftspeople from several Louisiana tribes across the region will have basketry, file', beadwork, drums, leatherwork, wood carving, and other handmade items for sale. The School of Social Sciences and Applied Programs, the American Indian Studies Program, the Williamson Museum, and the Native American Student Association have all sponsored the American Indian Crafts Day at NSU. Contact Gregory at [email protected] for more information about this amazing event.
