President Biden speaks for the first time since Election Day

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - President Joe Biden addressed the nation for the first time since President-elect Donald Trump's decisive victory Tuesday night.
The main point the president tried to get across to the country, particularly to Democrats disappointed with the outcome of this election, is the country will be ok.
He promised a peaceful transition of power.
President-elect Donald Trump has accepted President Biden’s invitation to the White House, as Trump's team prepares a transition plan.
"Setbacks are unavoidable but giving up is unforgivable,” said Biden.
President Biden tried to convey a message of hope and resilience after voters took to the polls Election Day and handed an overwhelming victory to President-elect Donald Trump.
"We accept the choice the country made,” said Biden.
From the Rose Garden, President Biden pledged to fulfill his duty in the remaining weeks of his presidency.
"74 days to finish the term. Our term,” he said.
And said he will do his part to ensure the next administration is prepared to take the reins.
"We'll have a peaceful transfer of power here in America,” said Biden.
The Trump transition team is already in full effect. Those heading the operation say Trump will be selecting leaders to serve in his cabinet and beyond in the days and weeks ahead.
"Rest assured he will have the full backing of Republicans in the Senate,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.).
Thanks to big wins for Republicans in Congress Republican Senator John Thune says the GOP is ready to hit the ground running, “to move an agenda that's good for this country, that deals with taxes and extending the 2017 tax law…and dealing with energy dominance and the high cost of regulations."
President-elect Trump says he will give Robert F. Kennedy, Jr a role leading public health and Elon Musk oversight on government efficiency.
The White House says a date has not been set for a White House meeting between President Biden and the president-elect.
