Locals jump into action to free semi stuck on Highway 96

(CUSTER COUNTY, Colo.) — Deputies with the Custer County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) helped block traffic as locals and businesses jumped in to clear a highway after a trucker from Georgia got stuck blocking the road.
According to CCSO, the semi truck was hauling a flat bed loaded with 110,000 pounds when it got stuck on Highway 96 east of Silver Cliff, blocking traffic. As Custer County is not one of the counties included in Senate Bill 24-100, which requires truckers to carry chains, the trucker did not have any chains.

CCSO said a local man responded with a front-end loader to clear the highway, and deputies blocked the road while the semi backed up to Bunker Hill Road. CCSO said local contractor Siefert Enterprises arrived on scene and plowed out the intersection of Bunker Hill and Highway 96 so that the extra long truck could back up Bunker Hill.
The trucker could not be given a citation for not carrying chains, but was cited for blocking the highway, CCSO said.
"A huge shout-out to the local loader operator and the road grader from Siefert for jumping in to help," said CCSO.
