BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Veterans Day falls on Monday, Nov. 11 and there are several events in the Baton Rouge area where you can celebrate the festivities. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Day is a "celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good." The holiday is observed on Nov. 11, regardless of what day of the week it falls on. The Baton Rouge area will be offering a few celebrations and events, ranging from a flag-raising ceremony to a parade to honor those who have served and are currently serving in the armed forces. Check out these events in the Baton Rouge area that will be celebrating Veterans Day. Baton Rouge organization to host homeownership workshop series Veterans Day Breakfast The 2024 Veterans Day Breakfast hosted by East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome will honor veterans and veteran supporters. According to the event's website, there will be limited seating and registration is required. When: 8:30-10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8. Where: 7711 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge. 1st Grade Mini-Production and BRCVPA Veterans Day Program According to the event's website, "The production is based on the children's book 'Drum Dream Girl' by Margarita Engle." The production will be followed by the Baton Rouge Center for Visual Performing Arts' Veterans Day Program. When: 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8. Where: 7600 Boone Ave., Baton Rouge. BRBC Community Veterans Day Breakfast Blood River Baptist Church is inviting all veterans and their families to join them for breakfast as they honor them for their service. When: 7 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Where: 31138 Pea Ridge Road, Albany. Zachary Army JROTC 5K Veterans Day Run/Walk Come lace up your sneakers and support your veterans in the Zachary Army JROTC 5K Veterans Day Run/Walk. The event's website states, "Whether you're a seasoned runner or just looking for a fun walk, this event is for you." When: 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Where: 4100 School St., Zachary. City of Walker Veterans Parade Line up for the City of Walker Veterans Parade will begin at 8 a.m. at Walker High School, with the parade getting underway at 10 a.m., according to the event's website. Live music will also be offered by 5 String Along Boys. When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Where: 12646 Burgess Ave., Walker. Veterans Day at the Zoo BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo will be honoring those who are actively serving and those who have served in the armed forces at their Veterans Day at the Zoo event. According to their website, if you present a military ID, you will receive complimentary admission for you and up to five guests. When: All day on Saturday, Nov. 9. Where: 3000 Zoo Circle, Baton Rouge. Veterans on Parade The Veterans on Parade in Port Allen will be honoring all veterans past and present for their service. According to the event's website, all veterans can participate on the floats free of charge. When: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. Where: 849 6th St., Port Allen. Ascension Parish Veterans Parade The Ascension Parish Veterans Parade will be held at the Ascension Veterans Memorial Park on Sunday. According to a news release, the parade route will travel south on Irma Boulevard to Worthy Road, to Burnside Avenue, to Cornerview Street, ending at Irma Boulevard. When: 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. Where: South Irma Blvd., Gonzales. Veterans Day Flag Raising Ceremony The 16th annual Veterans Day and Flag Raising program will be held at the Regional Veterans Park on the campus of Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary. According to the event's website, retired Army veteran, Lt. Col. Darren Spears, will serve as master of ceremonies. When: 7:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 Where: 6300 Main St., Zachary. Veterans Day Career Fair Veterans are invited to attend the Veterans Day Career Fair where leaders and hiring managers will be in attendance to meet with attendees and help them explore job opportunities, according to the event's website.
