Lower Bucks County no longer has anyone alive in the PIAA District 1 Class 6A football playoffs, but that’s not the case in the smaller-school brackets as three of its teams did win last week. Returning to playoff action this weekend are Conwell-Egan (Class 3A), Bristol (Class 2A) and Morrisville (Class A). Morrisville and Bristol are competing in District 1/12 sub regional finals, while Conwell-Egan will play in the District 12 championship game. All three are capable of winning these games and advancing into the third round of the state playoffs. Six victories are needed to win a state title. Belmont Charter (4-5) at Morrisville (9-2), Friday,  7 p.m.: The Dawgs advanced last week behind another big game by  senior running back sensation Raymond Holman and a late goal line stand to beat Jenkintown, 21-16. In that game, Holman averaged over 15 yards per carry and finished with 259 yards and two touchdowns. Morrisville has averaged over 150 rushing yards in seven consecutive games, and its defense has yielded an average of 13 points per outing. When you look at the records, Morrisville appears to be a big favorite against the Philadelphia Public League team, but there are some scores to consider. Belmont recently beat Executive Education Academy, 28-20. Executive Education Academy beat Bristol, 49-19, and Bristol beat Morrisville, 25-14. Either Delone Catholic or York Catholic will play Morrisville if the Dawgs advance. Lansdale Catholic (6-4) at Bristol (8-1), Friday, 7 p.m.: Bristol is rolling with with five straight wins and will be tough on its home field. On the other hand, Lansdale Catholic may very well be the toughest team it has played to date. The Crusaders are a member of the very competitive Philadelphia Catholic League Blue Division and own victories over teams such as Archbishop Ryan and West Catholic. Bristol was knocked out of the playoffs the last two years by West Catholic by a combined margin of 102-7. Should it win, Bristol will next play either Dunmore or Riverside. Conwell-Egan (7-3) vs. Simon Gratz (8-3), at South Philadelphia Super Site, Saturday, noon: Conwell-Egan comes in hot with five wins in a row and has allowed only two touchdowns during that span. There’s a common opponent as both teams have beaten Archbishop Carroll by similar margins. Gratz has plenty of speed and is clearly not your normal Philadelphia Public League team. Among its losses was a respectable 30-7 setback to state powerhouse Imhotep Charter. Conwell-Egan’s defense should carry the day, but its offense must come through as well. The winner will face the survivor of the Northwestern Lehigh-North Schuylkill game.
