We are honored to partner with two local organizations, Leña Para Los Abuelitos and the Santa Fe Community Foundation, in collaboration with Neighbors Helping Neighbors, to provide firewood from post-fire recovery efforts to local communities that rely on wood for heating their homes,” stated Forest Supervisor Shaun Sanchez in a news release. Fuelwood Program Information: Leña Para Los Abuelitos – fuelwood pick-up Start Date: October 10, 2024 (supply and weather dependent) Location: Las Lagunas, ¾ of the way up on Holman Hill, on NM 518 Hours: The operation will be five (5) hours daily on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm. To apply for the program, residents 55 years and older should visit the CPLC (Chicanos Por la Causa) office located at 3268 NM Hwy 518, Cleveland, New Mexico. Contact: Call Julie Martinez at 505-312-6887 Neighbors Helping Neighbors – fuelwood delivery Start Date: November 4, 2024 (weather dependent) Location: Delivery to all eligible participants Hours: The time of delivery is determined by the organization To apply for the program: The following groups will be prioritized 60 years and older,individuals with disabilities, single-parent families, and others as needed. Contact: Call Neighbors Helping Neighbors at 505-434-7282 In addition to issuing Free Use Dead and Down permits within the Hermit’s Peak Calf Canyonburned area, the Santa Fe National Forest aims to process a total of 2,500 cords of hazard treesremoved from Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) roads into fuelwood for community membersaffected by access issues on Forest Service roads.
