15 dogs, man rescued from Henrico house fire

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Henrico County Division of Fire responded to an early morning house fire on Thursday where about 15 dogs were rescued and a man was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
At around 6:50 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, Henrico Fire was dispatched to the 3000 block of Portugee Road for the report of a fire.
According to officials, units began arriving on scene within five minutes after being dispatched and saw heavy smoke coming from the back of a single-family home.
Officials said firefighters immediately initiated rescue mode inside the home, while additional fire crews began flowing water on the fire from outside.
According to Henrico Fire, when crews arrived on scene, they were also met by a woman who helped an older man vacate the home. Officials said he was then transported to an area hospital for minor smoke inhalation.
About 15 dogs of various ages were also reported to have been found in and around the home. Some of the dogs were administered oxygen, however, Henrico Fire said all are expected to be okay.
At 7:32 a.m., the incident was marked under control. The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
