MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A former collections officer with the Tennessee Department of Revenue (TDOR) has been indicted for an alleged "double-dipping" scheme. The indictment came after an investigation into Jeffery Wadding of Jackson, Tennessee, by the Tennessee Comptroller's Office. Investigators determined through the investigation that Wadding improperly received at least $34,131 in wages and employer benefits between June 15, 2022, and October 6, 2023. Reports say that Wadding was approved to work from home every day instead of working in the department office. But, in October 2023, TDOR officials were made aware that Wadding was working at the Prime Auto USA dealership instead of his approved worksite. His TDOR timesheets were compared to his dealership timesheets. Investigators reportedly found 287 days with an overlap of claimed work time. He was paid by and received benefits from both companies for the same hours, which is called double-dipping. Wadding allegedly admitted to working for the dealership while on the clock for the TDOR and was dismissed from the TDOR on October 2023. In October 2024, he was indicted by a grand jury in Madison County on one count of theft of property over $10,000, one count of destruction, tampering, or fabrication of a government record, and one count of official misconduct.
