The evening will feature heavy pupu (appetizers) selections, a no-host bar (with one complimentary drink included with each ticket) and a silent auction offering a wide array of original art, unique gifts, hotel packages and more.
Gregory House Programs will bestow their 2024 Kahu Mālama Award recipients at the event: Dominic Chow, M.D., and Cecilia Shikuma, M.D.
These two are being honored for their profound professional medical careers, which include many years of compassionate care and support and advocacy for those living with HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Shikuma is Director of the Hawaiʻi Center for AIDS (HICFA), a UH Board of Regents' approved Center of Excellence for HIV training, research and care.
Dr. Chow manages the Clint Spencer Clinic providing HIV care first at John A. Burns School of Medicine and now at the Queen Emma Clinic.
As Professors at the medical school, they have trained medical students and residents in HIV care and have contributed to advances in knowledge about HIV through clinical trials of HIV antiretroviral therapy and its complications.
As physicians they bring their philosophy into the examination rooms as they strive to optimize care for their patients who come to the clinic.
Gregory House Programs was founded in 1988 and offers a range of services to support people living with HIV that includes transitional housing programs, rent and utility assistance, food bank services and comprehensive case management.
"GHP believes that 'housing is healthcare' and works to connect individuals to essential services, improving their health outcomes and reducing the transmission of HIV in the community," said Jonathon Berliner, Executive Director for Gregory House Programs.
The event is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8; and the festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. and goes to 9:30 p.m. at the Moana Surfrider (A Westin Resort & Spa) in Waikīkī.
