MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) — Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin was officially declared the winner of Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race, securing her third term by a narrow margin over Republican challenger Eric Hovde.
In her victory speech, Baldwin pledged to collaborate with President-elect Donald Trump on common ground, while vowing to protect key Democratic issues such as healthcare and abortion rights.

Baldwin defeated Hovde with 1,672,550 votes (49.4%) to 1,643,592 (48.5%), a difference of just under 29,000 votes, or 0.9%.
This margin allows Hovde to request a recount under state law, though he has not yet made a decision on pursuing one. Hovde, endorsed by Trump, led in early returns, but Baldwin gained ground as Milwaukee County’s high-turnout votes rolled in late, delivering her a crucial boost.
During her remarks at a union training center in Madison, Baldwin acknowledged Wisconsin’s divisive political landscape and expressed her commitment to bipartisan efforts. “We deserve a politics with less vitriol, less division, less hatred, and fewer lies. Actually, no lies,” Baldwin said, addressing her supporters.
Baldwin’s win stood out in a tough election cycle for Democrats, who lost control of the Senate while Trump reclaimed the White House. Despite this, Baldwin outperformed Vice President Kamala Harris in Wisconsin, where Trump also secured a victory over Harris by a similar margin.
Acknowledging Trump’s support in the state, Baldwin stated, “I recognize that the people of Wisconsin chose Donald Trump, and I respect their choice. You know that I will always fight for Wisconsin, and that means working with President Trump to do that and standing up to him when he doesn’t have our best interests at heart.”
Baldwin has a history of collaboration with Trump, referencing her buy-American bill signed into law during his previous administration.
The race saw Hovde perform well in Milwaukee suburbs, winning counties like Ozaukee, Racine, Washington, and Waukesha.
However, Baldwin’s support in urban and university-centered counties, including Dane, Milwaukee, Eau Claire, and La Crosse, provided a decisive edge.
In northeastern Wisconsin, Hovde carried most counties, while Baldwin claimed Door and Menominee.
Baldwin credited her victory to relentless outreach across the state. “We did everything, everywhere, all at once,” she said, referencing her visits to communities of all political stripes. Her endorsement by the conservative Wisconsin Farm Bureau, a first for a Democrat in more than two decades, underscored her broad appeal. “I traveled to red, blue, purple, rural, suburban, urban parts of our state. I listened to people. I really listened to people and I deliver for them,” Baldwin stated.

With Baldwin’s win, Wisconsin retains its split Senate representation, with Republican Ron Johnson serving alongside her.
Baldwin concluded her speech by expressing gratitude for Wisconsin voters’ trust, adding that she will continue her focus on bipartisan solutions for the state.
