WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - The transition of power will soon be underway in Washington.
President-elect Donald Trump has won back the White House, and Vice President Kamala Harris conceded the race.
President-elect Donald Trump is receiving congratulations from world leaders, his opponent and President Biden, who will address the nation Thursday morning.
"The outcome of this election is not what we wanted,” said Harris.
In a concession speech Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris told supporters to keep up the fight, while acknowledging a peaceful transition of power.
"While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fuels this campaign,” said Harris.
Harris's remarks come after President-elect Trump swept the swing states and was declared the winner early Wednesday.
"This is a movement like nobody's ever seen before,” said Trump.
The Trump campaign says he and Harris spoke by phone where she congratulated him, and he acknowledged her quote, "strength, professionalism and tenacity."
Republicans also regained control of the Senate with wins in Montana, Ohio and West Virginia.
Outgoing Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell took a victory lap.
"And I think we had the best candidates everywhere yesterday,” said McConnell.
The balance of power in the House remains uncertain.
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries is holding out hope writing on X: "The House remains very much in play."
President Joe Biden's remarks later Thursday come after he invited President-elect Trump for a meeting at the White House to ensure a smooth transition.
