CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Localized flooding is possible Thursday as heavy rain and thunderstorms push into the region. Rainfall began on Wednesday and will continue into the first half of the day. Storm Team 2 said the heaviest rainfall is expected away from the coast. Meteorologist Josh Marthers said rain chances will fade through sunset; however, he noted that localized flooding is possible, especially well inland. In fact, heavy rainfall prompted the Orangeburg County School District to cancel classes on Thursday mostly due to poor driving conditions. “Due to ongoing weather conditions, challenging roadways, and the condition of some school buildings, all Orangeburg County School District schools will be closed today,” the district said. “This decision has been made with the safety and well-being of our students and staff as our top priority.” A flood advisory was issued for Dorchester County through 10 a.m.
