Oswego, Maine South, Batavia, Mount Carmel and Geneva are picks to click for second round of the state playoffs.
York (8-2) at Oswego (10-0)
Kickoff: 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Matchup breakdown: Senior quarterback Bruno Massel, a track sprinter and three-time state qualifier, leads York in this Class 8A second-round game. Massel ran for 172 yards and four touchdowns and completed 11 of 11 passes for 65 yards and another TD in last week’s 37-7 win over Edwardsville.
Senior linebacker Angelo Martire had a sack for a safety among six tackles. Senior defensive back Aidan Link had seven tackles and an interception.
York finished third in West Suburban Silver with losses to Lyons and Downers Grove North.
The two teams have a common opponent in Plainfield North, with York winning 35-13 and Oswego 21-13.
Senior running back Ayden Villa and junior running back Dekker Zelensek rushed for 143 and 95 yards, respectively. Oswego also received two field goals from junior kicker Kaleb Stumpenhorst, who can be the difference in a tight game.

West Aurora (10-0) at Maine South (7-3)
Kickoff: 1 p.m. Saturday.
Matchup breakdown: The quarterbacks — West Aurora junior Mason Atkins and Maine South sophomore Jameson Purcell — should provide great theater. Atkins has passed for 1,436 yards with 31 TDs and no interceptions.
Purcell, who reportedly had 20 scholarship offers before taking first varsity snap, has shown why with tremendous growth during the season. The left-hander capped it with a 465-yard, six-TD performance last week in a 49-42 Class 8A first-round win over Naperville North.
Three Maine South receivers — seniors Joey Naughton, Michael Dellumo and Mason Patras — have combined for 99 receptions and will test Blackhawks’ secondary, which has 12 interceptions.

Batavia (9-1) at Lincoln-Way West (7-3)
Kickoff: 1 p.m. Saturday.
Matchup breakdown: Senior quarterback Chase Hetfleisch passed for 208 yards and junior running back Jahan Abubakar ran for 157 yards to lead Lincoln-Way West to a 34-14 Class 7A first-round win at Pekin. Chase Markowicz delivered a key play, returning a punt 49 yards for a TD.
The Warriors’ three losses were all by one score — 28-22 to Sandburg, 14-7 to Naperville Central and 38-33 to Naperville North.
Division I prospects for Lincoln-Way West include senior receivers Austin Rowswell and DeAndre Coates and Northwestern linebacker recruit Josh Veldman, also a senior.
In rolling past Collinsville 54-13, Batavia coach Dennis Piron was able to rest his starters for the the second half. Isaiah Brown caught three TD passes. Senior linebacker RJ Bohr and junior linebacker Tony Minnec combined for 17 tackles to lead a defense that gave up only 15 yards in the first half.

St. Charles North (9-1) at Mount Carmel (7-3)
Kickoff: 5 p.m. Saturday.
Matchup breakdown: Senior quarterback Ethan Plumb passed for 379 yards and a school-record seven TDs in a 49-14 Class 7A first-round win over Rolling Meadows. It gives him 2,212 yards this season with 28 TDs and just two interceptions. He’s also run for 463 yards and eight more TDs.
Plumb will have to be at or near his best going up against the two-time defending Class 7A state champions, who have won 15 state titles overall and three under coach Jordan Lynch.
Last week, junior Keaton Reinke became St. Charles North’s first player with 1,000 yards receiving for a season. He has topped 100 yards in nine of 10 games this year and followed the playoff win with a game-day visit Saturday to Nebraska.
Senior quarterback Jack Elliott, a Vanderbilt recruit, passed for 3,184 yards and ran for 940 yards last season to lead Mount Carmel to the state title. Senior linebacker Matthew Mucha and junior defensive lineman Braeden Jones, a USC recruit, are impact players.

Burlington Central (8-2) at Geneva (9-1)
Kickoff: 6 p.m. Saturday.
Matchup breakdown: Limiting big-play threats in senior receivers Talyn Taylor and Finnegan Weppner and sophomore receiver Bennett Konkey will be the challenge for the Rockets, who advanced to the Class 6A second-round matchup in their first playoff appearance since 2014.
Taylor, a Georgia recruit, has 51 receptions for 1,098 yards this season, while Weppner contributed a 63-yard TD and Konkey added a 49-yard TD in last week’s 49-7 win over Amundsen.
Senior quarterback Jackson Alcorn threw for three TDs to lead Burlington Central to a 28-0 win over Grant. Two of those TD passes went to LJ Kerr.
