Close margins as votes for CA State Assembly District 8 and 27 races are counted

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – As more votes get counted, residents are getting a clearer picture of who could represent parts of Central California in the California State Assembly.
Current Democratic Assemblymember for District 27 Esmeralda Soria is still waiting to see if she will keep her seat.
"So we'll wait and see what the final numbers are, but we're excited about what the results are up to now," Soria said.
As of Wednesday evening, she and Republican opponent Joanna Garcia Rose are a mere 3,271 votes apart, with Soria leading with 37,627 votes to Garcia Rose's 34,356.
Soria was first elected to the assembly in 2022 after serving on the Fresno City Council. District 27 spans from western Fresno County up to Merced.
"We transcended across party lines and that's what's exciting about my race," Soria said when asked about how many voters in her area appear to be turning towards the GOP in other races. "At the end of the day, we have a lot of work to do in California, especially for our region and so that's what my focus is going to be."
The race is still tight and votes still need to get counted. YourCentralValley.com spoke with Garcia Rose on election night as the first results were coming in.
"We just don't know in this race until all the votes are counted, it's going to be close. So we just have to keep praying and keep watching. We worked hard. We did what we needed to do and God's going to see it through," Garcia Rose said.
Her background is as a tax auditor.
"I'm just a working mom who worked for the state of California, who sees the waste and wants to fix it," she said.
Another tight race is Assembly District 8; it stretches across seven counties and includes much of the central Sierra.
Political newcomer David Tangipa and former United States Congressman George Radanovich are running to represent this district as current Assemblymember Jim Patterson terms out. Both candidates are Republicans.
As of Wednesday night, they are separated by about 7,000 votes, with Tangipa leading with a total of 77,819 votes to Radanovich's 70,224.
"We're just looking in and watching the data and just excited about the position that we're in right now," Tangipa said.
Tangipa worked as the field representative for Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig. With more ballots still getting counted, Tangipa said he's willing to wait and see.
"I want to make sure that the residents of this area, my supporters, and the voters of this district, know that I appreciate them more than anything, and I am ready to work if they elect me as the next assemblyman for this district," he said.
YourCentralValley.com reached out to the Radanovich campaign to ask about their reaction to the results so far, but comment was not received before publication.
