NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – An unprecedented winter storm is expected to hit the state overnight, bringing life threatening conditions as well as heavily impacting power and roads. This snow storm is impacting areas like Las Vegas and Santa Fe are already experiencing the impact. A winter storm is making its way through the state.  “I think that says a lot for our community because we've gone through a lot, you know, with the fires and then the floods and, you know, all of our heat sources were ruined with the flood,” said Las Vegas City Councilor Barbara Casey. The snow has been falling since Monday in Las Vegas knocking out the power. “Our electricity here at home wasn't turned on until about 4.30 Monday evening, Monday afternoon.” The areas hit the hardest could see two to four feet of snow. In Santa Fe, the snow coming down this afternoon and into this evening. Pnm reporting that power was out for around 5,000 customers across the state Wednesday evening. Restoration started at 9 p.m. Preparations around New Mexico have been taking place over the last two days. The transportation departmet ready to salt and clear the roads. “Our guys go on 12 hour shifts so we'll probably have people coming back in at midnight. And they'll go around the clock. The fuel tanks are topped off of course and the supervisors keep an eye on everything supply-wise,” said Jim Murray, NMDOT.
