Fresno is taking back Granite Park, operator owes city over $1.3M
Nov 06, 2024
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The City of Fresno will be taking back control of Granite Park after its current operator, the Central Valley Community Sports Foundation, failed to pay the more than $1.3 million it owes, according to the city.
City officials announced Wednesday that it has officially terminated its ground lease for Granite Park with Central Valley Community Sports Foundation, citing several breaches including:
Failure to pay rent and utilities
Failure to provide digital billboard revenue
Failure to obtain approvals for concessions sales
Failure to make required improvements
Failure to maintain the premises and comply with local rules, regulations and codes
Failure to indemnify the city against losses, liabilities, fines, penalties, forfeitures, costs, and damages
Granting an unapproved license
In a letter sent to Terance Frazier, the president of the Central Valley Community Sports Foundation, Fresno's city manager says each of the breaches is grounds for terminating the lease of Granite Park to the Central Valley Community Sports Foundation.
The letter sent on Nov. 6 adds that no action was taken on the issues when they were raised in a letter to Terrance Frazier sent on May 17. The May 17 letter specifically references the Big Bounce America event as an example, stating that "well over 700 cars" were present which exceeds the 142 spaces made available for ballfield use.
City officials add that all existing agreements for baseball and soccer events at Granite Park will be honored. For anyone with events scheduled after Dec. 6, officials as organizers to call 559-621-5366 or email [email protected] to provide details about your existing agreement for the use of baseball or soccer fields.
