SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Boys and Girls Club located on Carew Street is celebrating three major projects. With nearly $1.5 million dollars in renovations, the facility cut the ribbon on brand-new outdoor fields, locker rooms, and a state-of-the-art pool. "The kids are really fortunate to have this in their neighborhood," shared Vincent Borello, Executive Director, of Springfield Boys & Girls Club. The 60-year-old facility received a well-deserved facelift, with the push of Mayor Sarno and ARPA funding assistance. "This is a second home for some, sometimes a first home," shared Matthew Perry, Chairman, of Springfield Boys & Girls Club. In addition to renovations, the club also invested in a drowning prevention system. Swimmers are able to wear a tracker that goes along the head when in the water. If the tracker goes underwater for more than 15 seconds, that signals to lifeguards that there is an emergency. The club's renovations are bringing more resources to children and teens as they spend their youth learning and growing in this safe space.
