Acushnet gives Trump highest support in Massachusetts

ACUSHNET, Mass. (WLNE) — Despite Vice President Kamala Harris earning the overwhelming majority of votes in Massachusetts in the 2024 Presidential Election, one town in Bristol County rallied in support of President-elect Donald Trump.
The owner of the ‘New England for Trump’ store in Acushnet said the day after the election was one for celebration and record sales.
“It was an awesome day,” owner Frank Joseph said. “I probably did four times what I usually do.”
75-year-old Joseph said he stayed up all night Election Day to watch the results roll in and was pleasantly surprised to see the reception the next day.
“It was a very joyous day; they all came in such a good mood,” he said.
Harris earn roughly 61% of the vote in Massachusetts, while Acushnet voted 61% in favor of Trump, the biggest number for the President-elect in any Massachusetts community.
“If you look at Acushnet, it has the demographic profile of a typical community that would support Trump in any other part of the country,” Providence College Associate Professor Adam Myers said. “Acushnet is overwhelmingly white, but it’s also overwhelmingly blue collar, or at least non-college educated.”
Trump also showed strides in support from other demographics nationally, including Latino voters.
“There’s definitely signs that certainly groups that have historically been a part of the Democratic coalition have left the Democratic coalition or are leaving it and, under Trump, are moving to the Republicans,” Myers added.
As someone who has supported Trump from the beginning and opened the store years ago, Joseph said seeing such strong local support was meaningful.
“The community really came alive,” he said. “The silent majority has spoken in Acushnet.”
