How Donald Trumps reelection will impact Louisiana
Nov 06, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — "It's the most amazing political comeback in history," political analyst Jeff Crouere said.
Reaction from the public is pouring in after Donald Trump is elected as the 47th president of the United States.
"To see someone who won, who lost and now won again. And after he's been through what he's been through. I mean, just an amazing journey," Crouere said.
Louisiana leaders react to Donald Trump winning 2024 US presidential election
In Louisiana, Trump secured over 60% of the vote which is more than he received back in 2020 and 2016 when he got about 58% of the vote. Analysts are waiting to determine the exact impact on Louisiana residents and its policies.
"Louisiana's connection is interesting because the big question is, you know, is the republican party going to be able to hold on to the house? And we don't know yet. We think so. If so, the top two leaders in the house are from Louisiana. So, our state holds an incredible sway on the republican delegation in the house," said Crouere.
The popular vote is still being tallied, but if trump comes out on top, it'll be a major achievement for the president elect, the first time a republican has won the popular vote since 2004.
It would be yet another victory for republicans this election. The GOP now have control of the senate and are fighting to keep control of the house.
"We have currently some elected representatives in leadership positions, such as Mike Johnson as well as Steve Scalise, John Kennedy and and Bill Cassidy. They're all in leadership positions in congress. So, they're in a very good position. In reference to influencing, the legislative agenda, directing resources to the state. But now it's about governing."
Home Rule Charter amendment passes with 80% of vote
However, several questions remain unanswered. Trump is now the first president in history to be charged with a felony with cases still unresolved. He's also only the second U.S. president to win two non-consecutive terms following Grover Cleveland.
"Whether or not the other two cases go to trial. We don't know what's going to happen with the sentencing. We don't know. But, that's why its historic," Lee said.
It could be days until we find out which party will control the house.
