Kailua's Nam finishes with eagle in first round of LOTTE Championship

The LPGA Tour's LOTTE Championship teed off Wednesday at Hoakalei Country Club, with a couple of golfers with Hawaii ties experiencing memorable rounds.
Kailua native and LPGA Tour rookie Malia Nam made a statement in her opening round, finishing strong with an unforgettable eagle on the 18th hole. The Kaiser High School graduate chipped in from the sand to move to 1-under-par, placing her within the top 45.
"Yeah, so the last hole I went for it," Nam told reporters following her round. "So I was just like, wow, I'll just try to get a birdie, but luckily it went in. But if you saw how my day was going, my putter was ice cold, not in a good way. So it seemed kind of fitting that I would chip and chip it in on the last."
Meanwhile, 14-year-old amateur Honorine Nobuta Ferry, a former Punahou School student, held her own against the professionals. Ferry was even through 11 holes and finished the day at 2-over-par.
"It was amazing. I'll definitely never forget this round," said Nobuta Ferry. "I mean, this was probably like one of the most nerve wracking rounds of my life, but also, the most fun I've ever had on the course."
At the top of the leaderboard, A Lim Kim leads the field at 6-under-par. Click here for a complete look at the leaderboard.
The LOTTE Championship continues through Saturday.
