Search suspended for missing Arizona visitor off Kauaʻi

ANINI, Hawaii (KHON2) -- The search for a missing 59-year-old man visiting Kauaʻi from Arizona was called off on Wednesday afternoon.
The search has been suspended after three days of searching near 'Anini Beach.

The search started on Sunday, Nov. 3, after a group of snorkelers who had been was snorkeling "near the back channel of ‘Anini Beach" noticed one person had not returned to shore.
The Arizona visitor was last seen around 11:45 a.m. that day.
Teams from the Kaua‘i Police Department, Kauaʻi Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and other volunteers searched the area by air, land and sea. This included the man's family who was assisted by volunteers from Life's Bridges, a grief counseling service.

Kaua‘i Fire Chief Michael Gibson said it was hard to stop the search without finding the man, and he expressed sympathy for the family.
“It’s never easy when we suspend the search for a missing swimmer, and when we cannot provide complete closure for someone’s family. Everyone involved worked tirelessly for this reason, and our sincere condolences are with the man’s family,” said Kaua‘i Fire Chief Michael Gibson.

Despite their efforts, they were unable to find the man.
KPD Assistant Chief Kalani Ke also thanked everyone who helped and sent his thoughts to the family during this tough time.
