New Orleans Saints believe in interim head coach Darren Rizzi amidst losing streak

METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) — It’s highly unlikely the Saints rattle off eight straight wins and make the playoffs, but typically when NFL teams fire their head coach mid-season, there’s a little bit more juice.
Saints tight end Foster Moreau said he's been a part of two interim situations, once at LSU and once with the Raiders. He described both those times as highly successful.
A key factor in making those situations successful is having the right guy for the job. It appears the Saints do with special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi. Rizzi interacts with just about every player on the team. He’s also highly respected by players, even if they don’t play special teams.
There are two things the Saints need right now, accountability and fight. Rizzi embodies both of those.

"He is an unbelievable leader of men," Moreau said. "There's something about him and the way that he coaches, the way that he leads, the way that he demands execution from his players."
"I actually believe in Rizz," Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu said. "I think Riz is the type of coach and the type of leader and a type of man that really can kind of command the room. I think Rizz is going to provide us like with that sense of reality. I'm just looking forward to really playing for him."
From the outside, sitting at 2-7, the Saints would be looking toward the future after firing their head coach and trading their star cornerback Marshon Lattimore. That mindset doesn't seem to hold true in the locker room. Rizzi said Wednesday that the team has not given up on the season.
