MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Schools across Madera are working to raise money for Fresno's Chaffee Zoo's first-ever African elephant calves in the "Change for Change" campaign. Organizers with the zoo say between Nov. 4 and 15, every elementary school classroom in the Madera Unified School District will be equipped with a coin container, collecting change to support preparations for the zoo's baby elephants. The zoo says the top three classrooms that raise the most will win a visit from the ZooMobile, a van ready to bring close-up live animal presentations to the classrooms. The money raised will be matched dollar for dollar up to $150,000 thanks to lead donors Claude Laval and Louis and Dena McMurray, and supporting donors Cynthia Smith, Community Care Health and Premier Valley Bank. Community members are also encouraged to send any spare change to participating classrooms.
