Pamela Price recall effort ahead in initial returns
Nov 06, 2024
(KRON) -- Initial results lean toward Alameda County voters recalling District Attorney Pamela Price. Price, a former defense and civil rights attorney, is the first-ever Black woman to serve as the county’s top prosecutor. Elected with 53 percent of the vote, Price promised to deliver criminal justice reforms.
However, her tenure as DA has been mired with controversy. Critics – which include Rep. Eric Swallwell (D-Livermore) – say she’s too lenient on criminals and has mishandled several high-profile murder cases. Supporters, meanwhile, have characterized the recall as a Republican-backed “coup.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, "Protect the Win," the group opposing the recall issued a statement urging "patience and optimism" while the registrar of voters completes the counting of the ballots.
"This presidential election, which has been a pivotal moment for our country as well as our state, witnessed significant voter participation, resulting in large numbers of ballots in Alameda County," DA Price said. "There are still so many more ballots to be counted, and in areas that I know we did well in getting our message out."
If the recall succeeds, it will be the first in Alameda County history.
