WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Kansas Humane Society turned the election into a fundraising event but did not focus on real candidates. Instead, its "Pawlitical Race" pitted "RePUPlicans" against "DemoCATS." People donating got to cast their ballots for either of those parties. On Wednesday, KHS announced, "DemoCATs have won the election with 2,739 votes and taken control of the shelter." (Courtesy Kansas Humane Society) The purely fun election raised over $4,800. "KHS operates at a loss for nearly every animal we adopt out, so donations from our community are the only way we can continue to operate!" KHS said on social media. "We’re so thankful to all of you for your support." 2024 Kansas General Election: Live results Even though the campaign is over, you can still donate to the cause. The money raised will help the Kansas Humane Society to spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinate, and medicate homeless pets.
