Healey addresses future of Massachusetts under Trump
Nov 06, 2024
BOSTON (WWLP) - President elect Donald Trump will take back the White House come January--here's what that win could mean for Massachusetts residents.
Governor Healey has sued Donald Trump's administration over 100 times while she was attorney general and has a long history of fighting back against Trump's policies.
She held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to talk about what Massachusetts can expect from its state leaders under the new administration. Healey addressed abortion rights, in case a federal ban is put into place. "That's something that we're very committed to, and we will make sure that women and those who need care are protected here in Massachusetts. Always, always," said Healey.
Healey noted that the state still has a stockpile of mifepristone--an abortion drug. The governor had another message for Massachusetts residents, that she paused to give as she was walking out of the press conference.
"Whether you're feeling a lot of feelings today, and maybe scared of feeling vulnerable, know that we see you. And we're going to work together," said Healey.
Healey also said she will ensure continued high standards of health care, and Massachusetts will continue to apply for federal grant money.
In addition to a Republican White House, the party took control of the U.S. Senate, and the House is still up for grabs.
