Gail Theisen, Julie Corcoran, Mark Kasel and Tessa Antonsen won the race for school board members for District 831 in Tuesday’s election, Nov. 5, 2024. Theisen received 15% of the vote while Corcoran received 14%, Kasel 14% and Antonsen 12%. Theisen has served the school board since 2012 and has helped make “tremendous improvements in curriculum, facilities including school safety, and most importantly to be a place where every student is welcomed and given opportunities to succeed and be prepared for life after high school,” she told the Pioneer Press. Her priorities will be advocating for programs to help students succeed, advocating for a fair funding formula and be engaged in the community. Corcoran has served on the Forest Lake Area School Board for 4 terms. “My priorities are to continue to work on ways to increase student achievement,” Corcoran said to the Pioneer Press. Kasel is the parent of Forest Lake school graduates and has a background in business. Academic achievement, community representation, responsible spending and transparency are Kasel’s main priorities, he told the Pioneer Press. Antonsen is a registered nurse of 28 years. “I am an extremely good listener with strong communication skills,” he said to the Pioneer Press. Antonsen’s priorities include addressing root causes behind educational standards in the district, strengthening communication with the public and gaining a deeper understanding of the School Based Healthcare Model.
