RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Reaction is pouring in from Virginia’s elected leaders after the American people elected Donald Trump as their 47th president.
“I was very pleased that America elected Donald Trump and JD Vance as President and Vice President respectively,” Rich Anderson, Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia, told 8News.
“The beautiful thing about a democracy is Americans get to make these decisions and the decision they made, even [though] we may not like it, we have to accept it,” said House Speaker Don Scott.
In a post on X, Governor Glenn Youngkin said, “The American people decisively chose to return common sense, strength, and leadership, back to the White House and Senate paving the way for an economic revival, a secure border, and stronger America on the world stage.”
“The country made a bet on Donald Trump that some of the things he said, he didn’t mean, and I hope they are right because we want him to be successful because it’s good for the entire country,” Scott told 8News.
In Virginia, Vice President Kamala Harris won the state’s 13 electoral votes, but by a considerably smaller margin than President Joe Biden did in 2020.
“I would have loved for them to carry Virginia, but I feel very gratified that they halved the delta between 24 and 2020,” said Anderson.
