King and Queen church broken into, windows smashed

KING AND QUEEN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Authorities are investigating after a King and Queen church was broken into, with multiple windows being smashed.
Between 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, a breaking and entering took place at the Bethlehem Church in the Bruington area of the county, according to the King and Queen County Sheriff's Office.
A suspect, or suspects, smashed a rear window of the church with a brick and also broke a window in the door, according to the office. Once they got inside, they reportedly broke into a church office. The office did not say if anything was taken from the church.
Authorities said that "what appears to be DNA evidence" was collected from the scene and it has been submitted to a state lab for analysis, but did not clarify the nature of that evidence.
"The King and Queen Sheriff's Office has already increased patrols of all local churches due to the earlier fires," the office said. "We ask that citizens continue to look closely at businesses and churches and, if they see something, say something."
8News reached out to the sheriff's office for more details -- such as further information on the "earlier fires" mentioned above -- and was told by an office staff member that someone would call the newsroom back. 8News has not received that call back as of the time of reporting.
