PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police say one man has died after being struck by a car while attempting to cross the highway Wednesday morning. At approximately 5:41 a.m., first responders were dispatched to Route 95 North for reports of a fatal pedestrian accident. Police say 61-year-old Kevin Elliot McCort, 61, of Ocala, FL, was driving on I-95 south when he then stopped his vehicle near the Eddy/Barton Street Exit. McCort exited his vehicle and proceeded to cross I-95 South. After getting across I-95 South, he attempted to cross I-95 North, where he was struck by a Volkswagen SUV in the high-speed lane. Police say McCort died from the collision. The driver of the Volkswagen SUV is not facing criminal charges or moving violations at this time, according to police.
