Man dies after being struck on I95 in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Florida man died Wednesday morning after he was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross I-95 North in Providence, according to Rhode Island State Police.
Emergency crews responded to the northbound lanes near Exit 36B (Point Street) just before 6 a.m.
Police said Kevin Elliot McCort had stopped his car on I-95 South near the Eddy/Barton Street exit, crossed that side of highway, then was hit by an SUV while attempting to cross the northbound lanes.
McCort, 61, of Ocala, died from his injuries, according to police.
Officers were seen picking up money from the ground near the crash site.
The northbound lanes of I-95 were closed for about an hour, causing traffic to back up until the scene cleared around 7:15 a.m.
Police said no criminal charges or moving violations are pending against the SUV driver and the crash remains under investigation.
