Louisiana DCFS urges EBT cardholders to update PIN after skimming devices found in stores
Nov 06, 2024
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services recommends all EBT cardholders change their PIN immediately after multiple skimming devices were found across the state.
DCFS advises cardholders to change their PIN every 30 days, monitor EBT card activity and be cautious with card usage. Cardholders can also set spending limits and block out-of-state and online transactions.
Skimming is the act of card information being stolen after someone swipes their card at an illegal point-of-sale terminal.
The agency reminds cardholders that neither DCFS nor the EBT card vendor will call a cardholder to request card numbers or PINs. Anyone who gets a call asking for this information should notify DCFS.
Victims of EBT skimming are asked to call 1-888-524-3578. Click here to learn more about card security.
