Dodging a few showers into the late week
Nov 06, 2024
With a slow moving frontal boundary sliding into the Ohio Valley it turned out to be a damp Wednesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky. It took until the daylight hours for the rain to arrive but most locations, especially in the Bluegrass saw a steady, soaking rain into the afternoon hours. Parts of far southeastern Kentucky stayed mainly dry as the front weakened and the intensity and coverage of the rain diminished later in the afternoon. Cloud cover helped to knock temperatures back a bit into the low 70s for highs but we were still well above average for early November.
The front will put on the brakes and stall out over the commonwealth into Thursday keeping a few scattered showers in the picture. The bulk of the rain should be during the first half of the day before things wind down as what’s left of the front weakens and drifts to the south. Afternoon highs will back down a bit into the mid to upper 60s as a northeast breeze pushes slightly “cooler’ air into the region.
Friday looks like the pick day of the extended forecast as high pressure briefly builds into the region. It should be a dry and pleasant day with a good bit of sunshine as afternoon highs remaining pleasant and slightly above average, topping out in the mid to upper 60s. Heading into the weekend another storm system will develop in the Central Plains bringing a return chance for showers and a few thunderstorms. At this point we may squeeze in a mainly dry Saturday before the rain chances pick up for the second half of the weekend.
You’ll need the rain gear on Sunday as an area of low pressure and a frontal system slides through the Ohio Valley bringing another round of scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder. If you have any outdoor plans this weekend you’ll probably want to squeeze them in Saturday as it looks to be a pretty damp finish to the weekend. The frontal boundary may check up a bit keeping the chances for showers around into Veterans Day on Monday. It appears any potential tropical moisture from Rafael in the Gulf of Mexico probably won’t be fed northward early next week as that system is now forecast to weaken significantly as it drifts into the western Gulf. We should still see some decent rainfall totals out of the late weekend system, which we could really use given the drier conditions of late.
