WINCHESTER, Ind. — Two people have been hospitalized in Randolph County after an apparent natural gas explosion was caused by an occupant trying to light the stove, authorities confirm.
The explosion was reported around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of County Road 950 South near Winchester. The home was reportedly destroyed and two occupants - a female and an adult male - were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Randolph County Sheriff Art Moystner said that the blast was an apparent natural gas explosion. A gas line in the home had reportedly been worked on earlier and the explosion occurred after the female tried to light the stove.
The female occupant was then flown to a regional medical center for treatment while the man in the home was driven to a local hospital. Moystner said Wednesday afternoon that the victims' conditions were unknown.
