Green Bay Area Public School Districts thanks voters for supporting $183 million referendum

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Green Bay Area Public School District (GBAPSD) released a statement on Wednesday thanking the community for supporting a referendum during the election on Tuesday.
The Nov. 5 Referendum gives $183 million to enhance safety and security at secondary schools, address maintenance projects at elementary schools and provide better learning environments.
As of Wednesday morning, 100% of votes had been reported, with 42,120 in favor of the referendum, and 21,691 voting against it.

"The Board of Education extends our deepest gratitude to the voters of our community for the passage of the referendum by 66%," Board President Laura McCoy said via release. "The Board has been fiscally responsible by making difficult decisions regarding school consolidation, and support of the referendum demonstrates that our community understood."
Interim Superintendent Vicky Bayer said that she's "overwhelmed by the support of the community for students and staff in the GBAPSD."
The referendum's passage makes the mill rate for the 2024-25 school year $7.65, going down from $8.26 in 2023, according to the release.
