EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Blanca Trout was reelected to the Canutillo Independent School District Board of Trustees after she resigned and dropped out from the race back in October, according to final unofficial voting results released early Wednesday morning, Nov. 6. Nine people were vying to serve as members of the Canutillo ISD Board. The top four vote-getters were elected. However, Trout resigned her seat and dropped out of the race in October for personal reasons. But her name remained on the ballot. The four candidates elected include incumbent Armando “Mando” Rodriguez with 14.04 percent or 4,041 votes, followed behind by teacher Lily Maldonado with 13.38 percent or 3,851 votes, then business owner Carolina Ortega with 12.34 percent or 3,554 votes, and lastly Trout with 9.92 percent or 2,857 votes. Gustavo Reveles with Canutillo ISD said Trout will have to decide if she wants to resign again or serve the four-year term. If Trout resigns, the Canutillo ISD board will have to vote on whether to appoint a replacement or hold another election, according to Reveles. The other six candidates falling short include Sergio Martinez with 9.87 percent or 2,842 votes, Laura Searls with 9.62 percent or 2,769 votes, James "Jimmy" Lofties with 8.54 percent or 2,458 votes, Jess Salgado-Ramos with 8.15 percent or 2,347 votes, Daniel Fintell with 7.93 percent or 2,282 votes, and Bobby Simental with 6.22 percent or 1,790 percent or votes. In Fabens ISD, six candidates were aiming to be part of the district's Board of Trustees. Three out of seven places on the board were open leading to following results: According to unofficial final results, Luis "Charlie" Estrada is the apparent winner for place three with 54.37 percent or 771 votes, leaving Angel Gonzales with 45.63 percent or 647 votes. For place five, Crystal Ramirez is the apparent winner with 54.39 percent or 818 votes, followed by Adam Escobar with 45.61 percent or 686 votes. For place seven, Greg Spence is the apparent winner with 56.45 percent or 884 votes, leaving Sylvia Gonzales with 43.55 percent or 682 votes. The primary duties of the Fabens ISD board are to establish district policies, adopt the district’s annual budget, approve expenditures, authorize employment, approve curriculum and make contract decisions. In Clint ISD, incumbent Mary Macias is the apparent winner against irrigation technician Nacho Martinez to be part of the district's Board of Trustees as an at-large member. Macias has 68.87 percent or 6,206 votes, leaving Martinez with 31.13 percent or 2,805 votes. The Clint ISD trustees annually adopt a budget and tax rate, hire and oversee the superintendent and adopt wide-ranging policies for the 10,300-student district in far East El Paso County.
