“The biggest Republican wave in the state since Ronald Reagan” — SCGOP celebrates Election Day wins, SCDP reacts

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Leaders with the SCGOP are celebrating, following Former President Trump’s victory and wins in numerous local elections.
SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick is calling Trump’s 18-point lead in SC the biggest Republican wave in the state since Former President Ronald Reagan.
“Yesterday Republicans all across our state added an exclamation point to what we already knew — and that is SC is Trump country,” he says.
Former President Trump received around 64,000 more votes from South Carolinians in the 2024 election than he did in 2020, leading McKissick to believe the results speak for themselves.
“We held our supermajority in the Statehouse and added one seat to it. We picked up an additional four seats in the State Senate giving Republicans a Senate supermajority for the first time in over 150 years –winning 34 out of 46 seats,” says McKissick.
Seventeen races across the state were flipped to Republican — including four sheriff’s races, three county coroners, one solicitor, one auditor, 13 county council seats, and three county treasurers.
He also says no SC Republican incumbent lost on Election Day.
“Straight ticket support, and the more people who don’t have a reason to split a ballot is a big unsung bit of a secret sauce we’ve had here in the last four or five cycles, I feel like,” he says.
Chair of the SC Democratic Party, Christale Spain, says despite facing what she calls “considerable headwinds with Trump’s turnout in gerrymandered districts in the state,” Democrats put up a valiant fight and stood strong — starting and ending with 36 Democratic members at the Statehouse.
“As folks say all the time, tough people are built for tough times and we are heading into tough times. I’m tough people. Democrats are tough people, and we’re going to keep fighting. We’re not conceding. We lost some races, but we damn sure tried not to lose them. We fought and we’re gonna fight again. It’s not over,” says Spain.
