AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Wednesday, the San Marcos Police Department said it was searching for a man following suspicious activity and reported sexual assaults at an apartment complex. SMPD said the incidents occurred between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in the 1700 block of Mill Street. According to police, the suspect was described as an approximately 6’0", heavyset white or Hispanic man with spiked or combed-over hair. SMPD said he was last seen wearing a grey shirt, black shorts and white shoes. On Oct. 31, a woman who lives at the complex reported to police a neighbor sent her a video that appeared to show an unknown person looking into her bedroom window. “In the video, the unknown person appeared to look into the victim’s bedroom, while the victim was inside and partially undressed, for several seconds before running away,” SMPD said. At approximately 2:30 a.m. Nov. 1, a different resident reported seeing a man outside of a ground-floor apartment window who appeared to be watching a woman sitting at a desk while the blinds were open. Officers responded and did not see anyone outside of the resident’s building, but later heard noises nearby and saw a man who then ran away through the complex. SMPD said the officers were not able to find him. Police later received additional reports Nov. 1 from residents at the apartment complex. A woman told SMPD she was asleep with her boyfriend when she woke up to an unknown man standing next to the bed and touching her inappropriately. The victim said the incident occurred between 3 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. According to SMPD, the victim said the man ran out of the room after she woke up. A second victim in the same apartment unit also told SMPD she was asleep with her boyfriend on the couch when she woke up to an unknown man touching her inappropriately. The second victim told police that when she woke up, the man ran out of the back door of the apartment unit and jumped off the back patio. SMPD said it was actively investigating the incidents and that the man had not been identified or found. “The San Marcos Police Department reminds all residents to keep their doors and windows locked and remain vigilant. Any suspicious activity should be reported to police immediately,” SMPD said.
