Chauncy Glover, a beloved TV news anchor for KCAL in Los Angeles, has died suddenly at age 39. His death was announced by the station on Tuesday, though no details regarding his cause of death were given. He had worked for KCAL since October 2023 and co-anchored four different nightly broadcasts. “We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy,” his family said in a statement, according to the L.A. Times. “He was more than a son and brother — he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community.” “Chauncy’s compassion and dedication to helping others, especially through the Chauncy Glover Project, changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams,” the family continued. “His talent, warmth, and vision left an imprint on everyone who knew him, and the world is dimmer without him.” Glover, who won three Emmys on top of other professional awards, previously spent eight years with Houston’s KTRK, where he was the first Black man to serve as a main evening anchor. Prior to that, he worked for WDIV in Detroit, WTVM in Columbus, Ga., and CBS 47 and Fox 30 in Jacksonville, Fla. During his coverage of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, he helped deliver a baby. He studied broadcast journalism, music and theatre at Troy University in Alabama.
