Armed man drives into Petaluma Marina in police chase

(KRON) -- A vehicle pursuit Tuesday ended after an armed suspect drove into the water at the Petaluma Marina and swam offshore with a gun, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said. A standoff with the man in the water lasted more than two hours before he was taken into custody.
The incident began when Sonoma County deputies attempted to pull over the suspect, but he did not stop, authorities said. The pursuit eventually ended at the Petaluma Marina and the suspect drove his car into the water.

The sheriff’s office said he was armed with a gun as he fled in the water. Law enforcement can be heard in video from the scene telling bystanders, “You are in great danger by being where you are. I recommend evacuating the area right now. You are in crossfire danger.”
A community alert at 12:34 p.m. from the Petaluma Police Department advised the public to avoid the marina.
At 2:42 p.m., the sheriff’s office announced that the suspect was in custody.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office did not initially release any further details about the incident.
