Westbound U.S. 40 closed through noon Tuesday after 5 injured in headon collision

Westbound U.S. Highway 40 from MP 27-32, near Daniels Canyon, closed around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning due to a crash, according to Utah Department of Transportation. A red Jeep Liberty was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 near milepost 34. At the same time, a red Honda CRV was traveling westbound. Snow was falling and covered the road at the time. The driver of the Jeep left its lane of travel, crossed the undivided median, and struck the CRV in a head-on collision. UDOT also required traction devices to traverse the area. UDOT Region Three confirmed at 11:57 a.m. that roads were open. Both directions had slow traffic as of 3:35 p.m. A passenger in the CRV was transported to the hosptial in critical condition.
