The CIF Southern Section’s top girls golfers will hit the course Thursday morning at Temecula Creek Inn to determine this year’s individual and team champions. There will be 72 golfers competing for the individual title. They advanced by finishing among the Top 24 at the section’s three regional qualifiers last week. Beaumont freshman Maleah Clark earned medalist honors from the Central Region by shooting a 1-over-par 73 at Bear Valley Golf Course in Victorville. Clark is one of the area’s hottest golfers at the moment. She also shot the low round (68) at Monday’s Division 3 team championship, also at Bear Valley. Clark is among the 14 Inland golfers who qualified for Thursday’s individual championship from the Central Region. Diamond Bar’s Juliet Oh, the reigning IE Varsity Golfer of the Year, shot a 74 (+2) to finish in second, while the Vista Murrieta duo of Breanna Noble and Fay Jia each carded rounds of 75 (+3). Western Christian’s Adelyn Choi finished in a tie for seventh place (78, +6), while Rancho Cucamonga’s Emily Zhang, Murrieta Valley’s Maddie Sammon, Vista Murrieta’s Wren Saithong and Los Osos’ Alexis Lee all shot 79 (+7) to finish in a tie for 10th place. Ayala’s Madison Soong and King’s Sarani Yapa shot rounds of 80 (+8) to tie for 16th place. Nine golfers shot 81 (+9) and a playoff was held to determine the final five qualifiers. Santiago’s Finlay Nihei, Claremont’s Kristina Xu and Ayala’s Iris Soong were among those who advanced. Diamond Bar’s Carol Yan is the region’s first alternate. The section also will be holding its team championship Thursday. Diamond Bar will be the lone Inland team competing, having advanced after finishing fifth at the Division 1 team finals Monday at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. Oh and Yan each carded rounds of 70 (-3) to lead the Brahmas. The top four teams and the top 28 individuals not on an advancing team will move on to the CIF/SCGA state regional Thursday, Nov. 14 at Los Serranos.
